Kinect Competitor with Better Body Tracking at $70/Unit?!?

I knew the day would come when body tracking technology would take the next step; however, I assumed it would come from Microsoft. This is what they get for dragging their feet… a PC competitor, willing to let developers hack their product from inception, priced at $70 a unit that can track complex 3D objects at incredible speed and accuracy. Imagine much more complex and accurate video games, robotics projects… not to mention Minority Report like computer controls… I just want a fitness game that makes me feel like a Dragon Ball Z character… that’s not too much to ask right? Don’t judge… watching Dragon Ball Z was a totally respectable hobby at some point… your memory is just clouded.

Digital Analytics Association’s Atlanta Symposium

Andy Bovington, VP Product Management, Bango @mrbov

Doug Busk, Mobile Brand Strategy, The Coca-Cola Company @dbusk

Bob Schukai, Global Head of Mobile Technology, Thomson Reuters @iammobilebob

Louis Gump, VP, Mobile, CNN @louisgump

There was a lot of focus on how mobile is in it’s infancy and has a lot of room and potential to grow. Here are some highlights from the panelists:

“What matters for us … is transforming Coca Cola from a mass marketer… into a direct marketer” – Doug Busk

Doug see’s a lot of potential coming out of the upcoming Olympics and hinted at some, music related, innovative apps coming out of Coca-Cola’s labs. He equated Mobile to Fruit Striped Gum “Bright and Colorful but quickly flavorless”. Mr. Busk sees a lot of marketers focusing too much on “the download” and not digging deeper for more meaningful data. Coca Cola is working to understand how, when and why people are buying their various 300+ products worldwide.

“It’s pretty simple stuff” – Andy Bovington’s response on Privacy Issues

Andy brought the focus of our Mobile Privacy discussion down to simple terms, explaining that marketers and data companies just need to be honest, open and transparent with what they are doing with user’s data. He compared Mobile’s current state with that of the Model T Ford… it’s in its infancy and we are only at the beginning. Mr. Bovington is excited for tomorrows Facebook IPO, especially after Facebook’s recent announcement that their focus is on Mobile.

“India and China may never see PC penetration” – Bob Schukai

Bob discussed the status of mobile for countries outside of the US. It was incredibly interesting to think that India, China and others may be “Mobile First” nations that didn’t grow up on PCs but instead adopt tablets and other devices as their primary “screens”. Bob equated Mobile with the classic “I don’t know where I’m going but I sure know where I’ve been”. He sees Mobile payments and Mobile banking becoming a big part of our lives and envisioned a time where junk snail mail for credit cards will be replaced by phone spam for mobile payments… I’m not sure which one is better.

Louis Gump moderated nicely and brought it all together at the end. I really enjoyed this panel.
